白雨 (White Rain) suggests a beautiful, enveloping rain, as it progresses through various stages, from mere droplets to a torrential downpour. Sparse beads soon open into a full, drenching shower that envelops all. Just as the flood threatens to wash everything away, it suddenly recedes into a calm drizzle. The gentle mist of the middle section acts as a prism, bending sunlight as it passes through into seemingly magical colors. The downpour resumes, becoming ever more intense until the storm suddenly lifts, leaving only a few stray drops at the end.

白雨 (White Rain) was commissioned by Dolce Hogaku Ensemble, to whom it is dedicated.
