Throughout String Tension 조인 줄 the gayageum spins a web of agitated lines, interlocking with the rhythm of the janggu. A taut gesture opens the piece and gives way to a nervous, edgy groove, with gradually building pressure. An initially free middle section becomes more uneasy as it constricts, leading to a strained return of earlier ideas. Just as the music is stretched to its breaking point, the opening gesture returns to unravel the tension.

About 10 minutes long, String Tension 조인 줄 was commissioned by Seunghee Baek, to whom it is dedicated.
