As an artistic challenge, I decided to write a piece in one afternoon, start to finish, whatever came. The result, Appalachian Serenade, is simple but honest, and rather lyrical, drawing on the musical character of the Appalachian Highlands and reaching back to my time growing up there. Maybe it shows that when you get right to it you go to what you know down deep.
