A Gathering Wind (대바람) explores the expressive range of daegeum. Navigating sections of warm lyricism, percussive attacks, energetic rhythms and violent bursts of notes, the instrument plays a highly virtuosic role throughout the piece.

Beginning as a gentle breeze, the music gradually gains force. Though moments of calm periodically interject, gusts grow stronger, eventually reaching a tempestuous gale, before suddenly dissipating into a soft wisp.

A Gathering Wind was commissioned by Kyeongeun Yoo, to whom it is dedicated.
