The title refers to both the nature of the piece, with its hard driving lines and obvious jazz and rock influences, as well as to the manner in which it was composed. Following a period during which I approached composition through a very deliberate and planned process, I was able to break free and work viscerally, without any preconceived organization. The resulting work, as well as works which followed, show a clear emphasis on rhythmic drive and the intricate interaction of voices.
